Capt. Dallas Crow, a carpenter from Sadsburyville, enlisted as a private on Aug. 30, 1861, at the age of 18, ( probably gave false age to enlist, and his real name may have been George D. Crow) in Company B, 97th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was promoted to corporal on May 1, 1862; to 1st corporal on May 1, 1863, and to 5th sergt, on Dec. 10, 1863. He re-enlisted as a veteran at Fernandina, Florida on March 15, 1864 and was promoted to 4th sergt. On May 1, 1864. He was wounded in the left shoulder during the action at Petersburg Mine ( Battle of the Crater), on July 30, 1864 and was promoted to Commissary sergt. On Sept. 1, 1864, to 1st lieut. On March 1, '1865; and to capt. On April 4, 1865. On July 17, 1865 Capt. Dallas Crow, Company B, was detailed as provost marshal during the occupation of Gaston, N. C. The principal duty was to administer the oath of allegiance to about five hundred men, forty women, and a dozen couples previous to their being married. He mustered out with his Company at Raleigh, North Carolina on Aug. 28, 1865.

After the war he worked for the Adams Express Company In Philadelphia as told in the minutes of the February 1884 reunion of the Regiment:

"Capitan Dallas Crow of Company B, obtained a position in the money department of the Adams Express Company shortly after his discharge from the service. He has continued to receive the fullest confidence of the company. His duties are of the most responsible character, requiring not only accuracy and promptness, but sterling integrity."

He probably continued in this position until his death, as his death certificate lists his occupation as " Expressman".
