Plymouth—(Special)—Phillip Ackermann, aged 72, prominent retired Plymouth meat dealer, passed away at his home here Saturday after an illness of several months. He had been ailing since last Christmas, and on July 4 he suffered a stroke. Since then he was confined to his bed. Mr. Ackerman was born May 20, 1859, in the town of Rhine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ackermann. His father started a meat market in what was known as the Ackermann block in 1864, conducting the business until 1875, when his sons, Theodore and Phillip, became associated with him. In 1903, Phillip retired, selling his interest to Gus Knauer of the town of Mitchell.
In 1892 Mr. Ackermann was married to Miss Mary Schmidt. Three children, all of whom are dead, were born to them. Besides his wife, Mr. Ackermann is survived by two brothers, Theodore and Alvin, both of Plymouth, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Volquarts of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Hulda Doegnitz of Ponco City, Oklahoma.
Mr. Ackermann was formerly a member of the Plymouth Fire club, and a member of the Plymouth Skat Club. Until he became ill, he was active in the skat club. He was regarded as one of the best skat players in Sheboygan County, and made skat playing and gardening his hobbies. He had a beautiful flower garden that took a great deal of his attention.
Funeral services will be held at the Ackerman home, the Rev. Martin Schmidt, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church, Plymouth, officiating. Interment will be made in the Union cemetery.
