Rachel Dorothy (Overman) Baker, 97, of Ashland, Kansas was born on January 6, 1914 to Irving A. and Minnie A. (Jones) Overman in Mankato, Kansas. Rachel was one of nine children in this family. She passed from this life on November 6, 2011 at the Ashland Health Center in Ashland.

Rachel attended the Wesley Nursing Training Center in Wichita, Kansas and graduated in 1937. This was a long lived nursing career with Rachel retiring in 1980 and then still working part-time until 1990. She married Errol K. Baker in Caldwell, Kansas on December 31, 1938. To this union were added two sons and a daughter.

Knitting, sewing and gardening were some of Rachel's favorite past times. She loved her flowers! She served as den leader for the Cub Scouts and participated in the Girls' Night Out Bowling League.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her five brothers, her three sisters, a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson.

She is survived by her two sons, James Walter and his wife Francis and Jerry Irving, her daughter, Patricia Ann Benear, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The family suggest memorials given in Rachel's name be given to the Hospice of the Prairie, P.O. Box 1298, Dodge City, Kansas 67801 or the Ashland Health Center, P.O. Box 188, Ashland, Kansas 67831.
