Obituary: Casper Garness
Spring Grove, Minn. (Special) -- Casper Garness, 81, spring Grove, a lifetime area resident, died Friday at Spring Grove Hospital where he had been a patient three weeks.
Born 27 Nov 1878 (note this date is not correct) at Mabel, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Embrick Garness. In 1898, he married the former Sopie Raniud, ( note means Rannrud) who died May 29, 1951. A member of Black Hammer Lutheran Church, he had retired from farming 10 years ago.
Survivors are: Five sons, Helmer, Sam, Ernest, Clarence and Lyle, Spring Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Eva) Sagdalen, Caledonia, and Mrs. Gerhart (Gilma) Sagdalen, Myrtle and Hazel; two sisters, Mrs. Jonas (Hilda) Knutson and Gina; 22 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren. A son Edwin; a daughter, Mrs. Barnett (Tilla) Johnson, and three brothers are dead.
Funeral services will be at Black Hammer Lutheran Church Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Richard Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Spring Grove Lutheran Trinity Cemetery. Before the services the body will lie in state at the church from 1 to 2 p.m.
Friends may call at Engell-Roble Funeral Home Monday and Tuesday morning.
These grandsons will be pallbearers: Larry Olson, Melford "Garness, Leland Sagdalen, Alden Sagdalen, Dale Johnson and La Verne Johnson.
