FLORENCE — Thirley A. "T.A." Galloway Jr., 79, of Florence, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at his residence after an illness.
Mr. Galloway was born in Florence County, a son of the late Thirley A. and Ollie Touchberry Galloway. He was a member of Palmetto Street Church of God. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, worked for Atlantic Coastline, was a truck driver for Stokes Transport and retired from Stone Container after 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Anita Frances Matthews Galloway of the home; son, Marty (Susan) Galloway of Jefferson; daughters, Gail (Franklin) Lewis and Marie (Billy) Stokes, both of Florence, Debbie (Tom) McGoogan of Durham, N.C., and Shirley (Jeff) Therrell of Hickory, N.C.; four brothers; four sisters; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Palmetto Street Church of God. Entombment will follow in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
