W. B. "Boyd" Maddy, 64, of 701 Temple St in Hinton died at 10am Tuesday in a Hinton hospital after a long illness.

Born in Raleigh County, May 11, 1908, he was the son of the late Eldridge and Lucinda Griffith Maddy.

He had lived in Hinton for the past 17 years.

He was a retired locomotive engineer for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad Co. for 46 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hinton, the Brotherhooh of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen and the Hinton Masonic Lodge.


Survivors include his wife, Lillie Maddy; a son, Eldridge of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Ann Smith of Charles Town; a sister, Mrs. Glema Brown of Washington, DC; two half sisters, Mrs Mytle Dobbins of Stanaford and Mrs Sybil Bennington, both of Newport News, Va; two half brothers, Jimmy Rees of Stanaford and John Rees of Columbus, Ohio, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2pm Thursday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor in Hinton with Rev. D. D. Elwell and Rev. William Fox in charge. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley.

The body will remain at the funeral parlor where friends may call after 4pm today.

The family requests that all donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
