His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 18th at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Sattgast officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning. There will be a Devotional Service at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Edward C. Schilling was born on April 10, 1929, to Carl A. and Frieda (Ranft) Schilling at St. Lawrence, SD.
On April 22, 1949, Edward married Martha Fuehrer at Huron. She died January 5, 1983. He farmed in the Virgil and Wolsey area for 20 years. He lived in the Wolsey area and worked at Wolsey School as bus transportation supervisor and driver. In the middle 1980s he moved to Huron and worked at Prostrollo Motors until his retirement on April 10, 2005. On May 20, 1994, Edward married Gladys Puffer at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
He was a very active charter member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, serving on various boards, Sunday school teacher and building committee member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, yard work and spending time with friends, grandkids and family.
He is survived by his wife Gladys Schilling of Huron; 1 son, Dennis (Sandy) Schilling of Huron; 2 daughters, Janice Getscher of Huron and Karen (Gary) Quiram of Wolsey; 6 grandchildren, Stacy (Tom) Daschel of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Cathy (Jason) Stigge of Huron, David Quiram of Murphysboro, IL, Kyle Quiram of Mitchell, Christina (Justin) Siemsen of Lake Andes and Brandon Schilling of Huron; and 1 great grandson, Aaron Siemsen.
He was preceded in death by his wife Martha, and his parents.
Casket bearers will be Brandon Schilling, Dave VanScharrel, David Quiram, Kyle Quiram, Dale Steilen and Dale Harvey.
