Hutcheson, Joseph Chappell, III
Joe (1907–1997) was the descendant of a pioneering Houston family and the son of Elizabeth W. and Joseph C. Hutcheson, Jr. He was a graduate of Phillips Andover Academy, the University of Virginia in 1928, and the University of Texas Law School in 1931, graduating first in his class and thus continuing the tradition of being first in their law class in the footsteps of his grandfather, Captain J. C. Hutcheson, and his father, Judge J. C. Hutcheson, Jr.
He was a member of the Baker, Botts law firm during his sixty-year legal career. He was a director of Schlumberger, Inc. and of the Duchesne Academy. In World War II he saw service in Germany and France, following many months as a field artillery instructor at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was an avid hunter and golfer and greatly beloved by his many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Catherine Jacob Hutcheson, in 1982, and by his sister, Mary Pye Hutcheson in 1972.
