From the book, The Fighting Men of Oklahoma: ENS Albert Efton Watkins was born Nov. 2, 1921 at Geary OK and graduated from Lambert OK High School. He was inducted into the service at Dallas TX on June 3, 1942, receiving his training at Athens GA; Dallas, Kingsville and Corpus Christi TX; Miami FL and Glenview IL. Ensign Watkins served in the Southwest Pacific attached to Bombing Squadron VP-18, and assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Lexington (CV-2) as a wing pilot. He was lost July 2, 1944 after taking off from Oahu Island. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Citation in Memory.
