George Dotson was a son of the family of David Dotson (1818-1898) and Mary (Jackman) Dotson (1826-1908). His father, David, was one of six children in his birth family, and was one of three of those children who moved from Pennsylvania to Louisa County, Iowa. His parents, George's grandparents, were Daniel Dotson of Wales/Pennsylvania (1776-1840) and Marry Sutton of England/Pennsylvania (1784-1846).
