Mount Pleasant (Iowa) Journal, 8 Mar 1883:
DIED.
HUTTON On Thursday, March 1, at the residence of her son, W. M. Hutton, Mrs. Polly Hutton, at the advanced age of 90 years. Polly Levi was born in Franklin county, North Carolina, Feb 1793. In 1803 she came with her father and his family to Tennessee where they settled near Nashville. Christmas Day of 1814 she was married to Samuel Hutton. In 1822 she came to Sangamon county, Ill. There they lived until 1885, when they removed to the present homestead in this county, a mile west of Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Hutton died at the good old age of 72 years, Sept. 14, 1857, since which time Mrs. Hutton has made her home with her youngest child, William, who during his entire life of over fifty years was never separated from his mother until the summons came, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
Mrs. Hutton was, for about 70 years, a member of the Old Regular Baptist church and her husband was a preacher in that denomination. Many of our old settlers remember the religious services held in the home of Rev. and Mrs. Hutton. Mr. Hutton was the mother of nine children, of whom two sons and one daughter are dead. The children living are Mrs. Ann Howard, of Fairfield; Mrs. Mary Cole, of Council Bluffs; Charles N. near Stansberry, Missouri; James, in Baker county, Oregon, Samuel, at St. Joseph, Missouri, and William, near this city.
Mrs. Hutton was the fourth in a family of nine, but she survived all her brothers and sisters. She died of extreme age, and up to within a few days before her death had enjoyed her usual health. For sometime she had expressed a fancy that there was a vacant seat awaiting her in the brighter world and she died in the full faith which had been her stay through a long, useful and eventful life. The funeral services were conducted Saturday by the Rev. W. R. Cole and were attended by many relatives and friends.
