He worked different farms in the area and also worked at the Badger Ordnance in Baraboo.
He is survived by his wife, several step children and 5 grandchildren as well as 4 great grandchildren.

John "Jack" Bankes, 78, of Marshfield, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Roseberry's Funeral Home in Friendship. The Rev. Mark Lafferty will officiate. Interment will be in Monroe Center Cemetery, in the Adams County, Town of Monroe.
Military rites will be offered by Adams VFW Post No. 6279, Adams American Legion Red Cloud Post No. 250 and Grand Marsh American Legion Snyder-Richardson Post No. 273.
Jack was born July 6, 1927, in Monroe Center, to Joseph and Jennie (Hobart) Bankes. He married Irene Ruth Davis Feb. 12, 1972, in Adams.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army. He worked at a number of various farm jobs throughout the years and also worked at Badger Ordinance in Baraboo.
Survivors include his wife of Marshfield; one stepdaughter, Mary (Charles) Gleisner of Marshfield; three stepsons, John (Nicky) Hunt and James Hunt, both of Adams, and Kalven (Sandy) hunt of Friendship; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eva Eschenbach of Mauston and Ida Payne of Adams.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
