RYDER — Doris Geraldine "Geri" Albert, 85, Ryder, died Oct. 31, 2011, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Garrison. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot. She was born March 21, 1926, in Flaxton, to Wilfred and Edna (Stoffel) Burgett. Wilfred died before she was 1 year old, and family friends, Fred and Ethel Carter, helped raise her. She graduated from Flaxton Public School in 1944 and married Robert Albert of Ryder on May 25, 1944. They moved to a farm southwest of Ryder, where she lived until moving to Bismarck in 2009.

Music was very important to Geri and she passed that love on to her children. One of her joys was listening to them as they performed musically. She taught many piano lessons in the community, and was a long-time organist at St. Charles and St. Elizabeth Catholic churches. She often accompanied Robert as he sang for weddings and funerals.

Her talents also included cooking, baking and gardening. Many family members and neighbors enjoyed the work of her hands. Caramel rolls and dinner rolls were her specialty. Many bags of baked goods went home with family and friends after a visit to the farm.

Geri spent many hours in front of her sewing machine creating clothes for herself, her children and even her husband. She also at one time upholstered furniture for her home and for others in the community. As time went on, and the grandchildren came along, she took it upon herself to create quilts and afghans for them as a remembrance of their grandmother.

She is survived by her six children, Roberta (Duane) Johnson, Minot, Jerome (Gayle) Albert, Minneapolis, Jerold (Julie) Albert, Bismarck, Glen Albert, Ryder, Julianne (Mark) Hathaway, Bismarck, and Leslie (Marlin) Peterson, Bismarck; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilfred Burgett, Menands, N.Y.; and one brother-in-law Carl Homanyi, Sacramento, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; her siblings, Robert, Donna and Maxine; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
