Reuben was the son of Christian and Sarah (Sterner) Wolff. He was born and raised in Pennsylvania.
Reuben was married twice. First to Caroline Mellinger abt 1850. To this union were born seven children; Henry, Katherine, Sarah Ellen, Emma, Edward, Agnes, and Clara. His second marriage was to Katherine M. abt 1869. To this marriage was born one son; Elmer.
In 1860 Reuben is found living in Newton, Cumberland County, PA. Reuben also has a 14 year olf hired hand named Monroe Fetter living on the farm. Caroline died in 1868 in Pennsylvania.
By the 1870 census Reuben and his new wife Katherine and children have moved to Mercer County, Illinois where his occupation is listed as carpenter, and his oldest son Henry is working as a farm laborer. His youngest son Elmer is born in Illinois in 1874.
In 1880 Reueben has moved his family and is farming for himself in Henderson, Illinois in the Bald Bluff Precnt. With him are children Henry 29, Edward 17, Clara 14, and Elmer 6. The others are all living on their own or married.
The family did not stay in Henderson, they soon moved back to Keithsburg where Reuben and his family again took up farming. Reuben remained in Keithsburg until his death in 1912, Katherine followed him in 1919.
Reuben died at the age of 79 and is buried in Greenmound Cemetery in a family plot along with his second wife, daughter Clara, son Elmer and daughter-in-law Anna S. Lundberg.
