Born 5 Nov. 1804 on the South Fork of Cumberland River, Pulaski Co., KY
Second of nine children and the oldest son of Richard J. WOOLSEY Jr. (1776-1852) and Mary "Polly" LOVEALL (1777-1857).

"February 18, 1892 THE ROLLA WEEKLY HERALD - (WILLIAM WOOLSEY) - Died at the home of his son-in-law, Rev J.J. Watts, near Relfe, MO., Feb 3d, 1892, Mr. WILLIAM WOOLSEY, aged 87 years, 2 months and 28 days.

Mr. Woolsey was born on the south fork of the Cumberland River, in Pulaski Co., KY, Nov 5th, 1804, was the second child of a family of nine children, two of whom survive him, namely, James Woolsey, of Springfield, MO, and Miss Cyntha Ann Woolsey, who resides with her niece, Mrs. J.J. Wats, near Relfe, MO.

Mr. Woolsey was three times married, first to Miss Annie Martin, March 8, 1828, who died in Kentucky Feb. 8, 1846. Married second Miss Nancy Turepan, Sept 3d, 1847. In 1852 he came to Pulaski, now Phelps county, MO, and on March 7th 1855, he married Mrs. Matilda Woolsey, his bother's widow, nee Hudgens, and for 30 years he lived near Rolla. Seven years ago he with his wife, moved up to live with his son-in-law, who has cared for them until Aug 24th last, when his wife, passed away and ever since he has been helpless and gradually sinking, and finally passed away without a struggle.

He was the father to many children, had fourteen of his own, and his brother's children, who came to live with him number four, and several orphan children. Nine of his children survive him. He was a member of the Baptist Church for more than fifty years, and died in full faith and immortality.

Having loved and cared for his children in life, he loved and spoke of them all even unto death.... His grandchildren number sixty-two, and great grandchildren twenty-six. His remains were taken to Beaver Creek Cemetery and buried by the side of his wife Feb. 6. He said to his son-in-law, take me to Beaver, where I long ago picked out to be my resting place. A Relative."
