The First funeral service in the newly decorated and enlarged Catholic church of St. Charles was held Wednesday morning for Mrs. Catherine Barry one of the most respected members of this community. Father Horah said requirem mass for the deceased and interment was made in Clavary cemetery beside her husband who died more than thirty years ago. The pall bearers were E.J. Forestall, John Waters, W.E. Small, Will Spencer, C.A. Fay and M. Ganey. Mrs. Barry had not been in good health for the past few years but had rallied from every heart attack and friends hoped the present attack would pass away but death came peacefully Monday morning, Nov. 9th after an illness of a week at the age of 77 years. Mrs. Barry whose maiden name was Catherine Kenney was born near the town of Tralee, Ireland, April 18, 1848. She came as a young girl to this Country and was married to Edward Barry in MacGregor, Iowa, where they lived until coming to Winona County which has been her home for more than fifty years. Nine children were born to the marriage, two little sons dying in early childhood. The surviving children are: Thomas of St. Charles; Edward of Utica; James and David of St. Charles; Michael of Utica; Mary Mrs. M.J. Walsh, Council Bluffs, Ia., Catherine Mrs. F.A. Childs, Oakdale, Neb. There are seven grandchildren.; Winona Republican-Herald, November 14, 1925, page 13.
