He was born June 18, 1901 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George William and Clara Louisa Williams Cracroft. He married Myrtle Marie Clements on October 20, 1920 in Farmington, Utah. She passed away on December 5, 1968.Clift attended Wasatch School and West High School.
He was employed for several years by Utah Light & Traction Company as a painter, motorman, and conductor. He worked for his father and other contractors as a painter, and learned paper hanging, for several years. For 25 years, he was self-employed at his trade. And for 24 years, he lived in and operated the Broadway Hotel in Salt Lake City, retiring April 1, 1978. He was a member of the LDS Church.
