John William Woods was the first son of Joseph William and Cenia Alabama Sims Woods. He moved to Somerville at an early age.

He only had a '9th Grade' education, but never stopped reading and learning. He had a photografic memory and instant recall.

He and Vivian Elizabeth Thomas were married in her hometown, but lived all their married life in Somerville. They did not have any children but they were added 'Grandparents' to Lela and Lee Davis' children and grandchildren.

He was the Post Master in Somerville, Burleson Co, TX
He was on Local Board in 1942(think was draft board)

Was a Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church, Somerville, TX, for most of his life.

Was Census enumanator for the 1930 census in Somerville, TX.

He was a bookkeepper at the Ty plant, and retired from Santa Fe Railroad.

Was the Tax Asso/Collector for Somerville School District.

Wrote collums in the Burleson Co newspaper, Washington Co newspaper, and Somerville Tribune Newspaper.

When the dam was built in Somerville, he was given a ride in a helecoptor over the dam site, and lake site. He wrote a collum in the Burleson Co paper about the construction of the dam and subsiquient lake during construction.

He and Aunt "Beffy" (Vivian) had goats that they milked. He drank that milk rather than cows milk. They always had a garden, and that was the first place I had ever seen "English" peas grown.

He had every National Geographic Mag. ever published from time publishcation started until his death.

He wrote a book... Pam Davis typed it for him, and I hope has a copy of it.

He had a wonderful Bible with a world of notes written in the margins.

He was the family historian. He knew loads about the family, and if you could get him talking, he could tell you wonderful stories about all the ancestors.
