SPIDEL, Lewis Earnest age 89, of Centerville passed away Tuesday, April 24 at Sommerville Senior Living. After graduating from Jefferson High School, Mr. Spidel completed a sheet metal apprenticeship with Frigidaire and was working there when he was drafted into WWII serving in the Army. Lewis served his country honorably from 1941-1944 and was awarded the bronze star. Upon his return from the war he resumed his job with Frigidaire until opening his own business in 1948, the "Spidel Tin Shop," in West Alexandria, OH. He owned and operated his shop for 18 successful years. Many West Alex residents remember the Christmas window that he decorated every holiday season. After closing his shop, he donated many pieces of his sheet metal equipment to the Greenville Historical Museum in Greenville, OH. Lewis and his wife enjoyed Volksmarches all over the country racking up thousands of miles. He was an active gardener and enjoyed many outdoor activities. Lewis will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Earnest Spidel of Liberty, OH and by his sisters, Helen Pennington and Mildred Booher. Lewis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Annamae ; his children, Louise Pacheco of Bonaire, GA, Susan (Tom) Allen of Bellbrook, OH, Mark (Karin) Spidel of San Diego, CA and Guy (Jenny) Spidel of Englewood, OH; sister, Gladys Allread of Liberty, OH; grandchildren, Lisa (Tom) Tonn of Panama City, FL, Dhana Pacheco of Bonaire, GA, Michael Allen of Belize, CA, Joseph (Calliope) Allen of Boston, MA, Erin Spidel of Buda, TX, Zachary, Jacob and Rachel Spidel all of Englewood, OH; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Linda Tonn both of Panama, City, FL and BethAnn Pacheco of Bonaire, GA and Max Marie Allen of Boston, MA and many other nieces and nephews. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 10:30 AM , May 30, 2007 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville, OH. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service. Burial service immediately following at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice Vitas, 3055 Kettering Blvd., Suite 218, Moraine, OH 45439.
