Jumping off roofs with an umbrella and experiments about flying at age 8. Don built model gliders at the age of eleven. Attented Saginaw High School and was Captain of the football team in 1913. Gave his first exhibition flight at Merrill, MI in August of 1915. Built his second plane with the help of Amasa Roberts and William Houston. He could not be in WW I due to a physical problem. Attended the Bad Axe Fair in 1915. Don became an instructor at Selfridge Field near Mt. Clemens, MI.
Donald was Saginaw's first aviator. At noon, on October 10th, his solo flight aeroplane plunged into the chilly waters of Lake St. Clair. Cause of fatal crash was never determined.
