Funeral service for Mr. Hunter W. Vardaman, II, 84, of Alexander City, will be Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Dr. Bill Etheridge, Rev. Blue Vardaman, and Judge Tom Young, Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park with veteran honors provided by the Alexander City Veteran's Honor Guard.

Mr. Vardaman, II passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011 at Russell Medical Center. He was born on Oct. 15, 1927 in Birmingham, AL to William Kilpatrick Vardaman and Henry Hunter W. Vardaman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Mr. Vardaman served in 3 branches of the military, the U.S. Navy in WWII, U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and the U.S. Army. After attending the Auburn University he began his journey in the newly established space program in Huntsville, AL.

He is survived by the "apple of his eye", his wife of 60 years, Magdalene Moody Vardaman of Alexander City; son, Rev. Blue Vardaman (Betty) of Alexander City; daughter, Pam Vardaman Young (Tom) of Alexander City; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; identical-twin brother, William Kilpatrick Vardaman (Molly) of Huntsville; daughter-in-law, Alison Vardaman of Huntsville; and sister-in-law, Maebelle Still of Alexander City.

He was preceded in death by his son, James Dorroh Vardaman and his parents.

The family will accept flowers or memorial contributions may be given to the Eye Foundation of Alabama.
