Mr. Vardaman was born in Birmingham, AL. He served in the US Navy 533rd Seabees during World War II. Later while serving in the National Guard in the 31st Infantry Division, he was activated into the Army in 1950, at the start of the Korean War.
Mr. Vardaman attended Auburn University and graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology. He received a master's degree from the University of Alabama in Administrative Science.
After a long career in Aerospace and Defense, he retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1984. He followed with an active career in space research and consulting fields. He was president of Vardaman Associates, LLC, an Aerospace and Defense consulting firm.
