Born June 8, 1925, in Rutherford County, he was the son of the late James and Mary Holland Early. Mr. Early was a very active member of West Hickory Baptist Church and a retired truck driver. He joined the military in 1942 and was a veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1944.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois Walker Early of the home; two sons, Mikeal Early and wife, Marla, of Hickory, and Bruce Early and wife, Catherine, of Sherrills Ford; grandchildren, Jason and Kendal Early, both of Sherrills Ford; and two sisters, Marble McCall of Hudson and Jean Scott of Marion.
The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Scott Frady officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to West Hickory Baptist Church, 40 12th St., NW, Hickory, N.C. 28601.
