She was born January 15, 1915 at Palisade, CO to Nolen C. and Mildred (Parker) Varner.

When she was young she moved to the Delaware, OK area where she grew up and attended school graduating from Delaware High School. After completing high school she attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK where she received her Bachelor degree in education.

In 1938 she married Edward N. Haynes at Miami, OK. Following their marriage they made their home in Guthrie, OK and Hobart, OK where Mr. Haynes was stationed with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, they later lived in Plainview, TX where they operated a Buick dealership for several years before moving to Blackwell, OK where they both taught school, until moving to Coffeyville where they taught school. Mr. Haynes preceded her in death in 1971.

Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a 75 year member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Honor Sorority. She loved music and was a member of her church choir for many years.

Survivors include one son, Ed Haynes of Coffeyville; and two nieces Judith Fries of Lakewood, CO, and Catherine Fletcher of Boulder, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Graveside Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Nowata Memorial Park in Nowata, OK with Father Ben Nguyen of Holy Name Catholic Church officiating.
