Emerson Etheridge

U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Tennessee, in 1831, he completed preparatory studies, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1840 and commenced to practice law in Dresden, Tennessee. He was a member of the Tennessee State House of Representatives, (1845-47). In 1853, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third and Thirty-fourth Congresses, serving until 1857 and elected to the Thirty-sixth Congress, serving (1859-61). After his term, he was elected Clerk of the United States House of Representatives, (1861-63). He was a member of the Tennessee State Senate, (1869-70) and surveyor of customs in Memphis, Tennessee, (1891-94).
