Lou was born on July 2, 1924 in Chickasaw County, Iowa at the family home. He moved with his wife and four children to Oregon in 1953. He had several jobs (lumberjack, road construction, dairy farmer, contractor, and his last job was maintenance supervisor at Woodland Park Hospital in Portland).

Dad has always been an avid vegetable gardener, supplying his neighbors, bowling partners and family with produce. Another of his hobbies was bowling (he was disappointed he didn't ever have a 300 game). Dad was also "Mr. Fix-it". Dad loved to build glider swings and windmills for his children and neighbors. Around the camp/hunting sites there were several of us that had macramé d lawn chairs made by dad. Dad loved to go deer hunting with "the group" for many years. The last month of dad's life was spent in Coos Bay in the home of his daughter and son-in law, Jan and Allen. All four of his kids spent lots of time there helping with his care. Dad was so happy to be there with his kids and told us many times. He was very much a man of integrity, never complained about the cards he was dealt with the cancer (diagnosed December 19, 2008).
The hospice workers and dad's night-time caretaker June, were wonderful and asked us kids many times if this man ever said anything negative - he was loved by everyone. He passed away at his daughters home on March 24, 2009 at the age of 84.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents, John and Verna Cagley, older sister, Ellen Sands , and second wife Verl Clark. Lou is survived by his first wife, Shirley Cagley, Coos Bay; his brother, Lyle Cagley (Gerry) Antiock, CA.; his sister, Selma Bell, North Bend, OR.; his four children, David Cagley (Susi) Spokane, WA., Janice Ellis (Allen), Coos Bay, OR., Vicky Walker (Jim), Dallas, OR., Marcia Carlisle (Jim), Brookings, OR.; one "adopted" daughter, Myrna Harris (Jerry), Roseburg, OR.; two step-sons, Michael Clark, Texas and Dennis Clark, Eugene, OR. Lou has 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special bowling/working friend Vern Ahrens and Dad's "special lady" Betty Antons of Portland.
