Father Charles E. Leisle, age 71, of Eau Claire, Wis., passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, after a long struggle with Alzheimers Disease.

Father Leisle was born on May 8, 1932 in Wausau, Wis., to Edwin and Ellen (Bendel) Leisle.

He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Athens until the age of 14 when he entered the seminary at St. Nazianz, Wis.

He was ordained for the Diocese of La Crosse on May 24, 1958 at St. Anthony’s in Athens, Wis., by Bishop J.P. Treacy.

His first solemn mass was on May 25, 1958 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens.

Father Leisle served in the following Parishes: St. John’s in Marshfield, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Arcadia, Immaculate Conception, Sacred Heart in Jim Falls from June 1, 1972 to Feb. 19, 1974 and St. James in Camp Douglas, and St. Michael’s in Indian Creek from Feb. 20, 1974 to August 17, 1992. He was the Dean of the Mauston Deanery from 1978 to 1981, and a Chaplin at the VA Hospital in Tomah.

Father Leisle joined the National Guard on Dec. 30, 1966. He was the State Chaplin for the Army National Guard from Feb. 15, 1985 until his retirement on May 16, 1992.

He is survived by his brother Matthew (Karen) Leisle of Racine, His Nieces, Vicki (Lance) Spinler of Oak Creek, Kim (Corey) Niesen of Racine, Great-Niece Hannah Niesen, His care giver and loyal friend Linda Putman of Eau Claire, a cousin Henry Schneveis of Athens, and close family friends Vi Putman, Mary Putman/Tim Rowan, Sandy, Jim, Jami and Krista Buetow and Charlotte and Rick Blank, all of Cadott.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, and his Aunt Irma.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens, Wis., with Father Don Wilger officiating. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Church Cemetery in Athens.

Local visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Jim Falls from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Divine Office of the Dead Service. Visitation will also be held on Monday, Sept. 29, 2003 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Divine Office of the Dead Service and also one hour before the Funeral Services on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Athens.

The Family takes this opportunity to thank the wonderful people who helped him: Vi Putman, Pam Bowe, Pat Mayer, Corey Ross, Bob Brummond, Betsy Wahl, Emil Weber, June Meznarich, Dick and Jean Carlson, and Doris Fletschock. Also to St. Joseph’s Hospice for the wonderful care and support of Father Leisle.

Father Leisle was a very kind, generous, caring person who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
