He was born on July 28, 1925, in Rutland, the son of Arthur E. and Dorotha (Gates) Fleming. He married Mamie L. Campbell on Nov. 17, 1946, in Sparland.
Surviving are one daughter, Janet (Rick) Rinehart of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; one son, Charles (Lori) Fleming of Mapleton; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Billie Ahlstrom of Lacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brother, Jackie Fleming.
Charles owned and operated Fleming Standard Service in Lacon. He later worked for Hiram Walker until it closed and then for the maintenance department at Methodist Medical Center.
He was a WWII Army veteran and a member of the Lacon American Legion Post No. 593 and a lifetime member of the Chillicothe V.F.W. Post 4999.
Charles was active member of the Lacon Masonic Lodge No. 61 and Henry Masonic Lodge No. 119. He was a past master and past district deputy grand master. He was member of the Mohammed Shrine of Peoria, where he enjoyed being an El Bon Clown and was a driver who transported children to the Shriners Hospital for Children. He was a member of the Lacon/Sparland Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. The Rev. Kay Harding will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m., with Masonic rites at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be held in the Sparland Cemetery, with military rites.
Memorials may be made to the Lacon Masonic Lodge No. 61 or to the Marshall County Historical Society.
