William first married in about 1797 to a woman whose name is as yet unknown. Her first name may have been Catherine adding confusion as this is also the name of William's 2nd wife. Her last name may have been Boling as that is the middle name of one son and no other known source of a name "Boling" is familiar to any family member.

William and his first wife had 11 children together and she is believed to have died in about 1832 near Stahlstown, Westmorekand County PA. No gravestone for her has been located, nor any death records. There is a space beside Wm King in this cemetery that is unmarked. That may well be where she is buried.

In about 1833 William then married Catharine (nee Ambrose) Lichtebarger, widow of Jacob Lichtebarger and mother of 8 children, some of whom still lived at home.

In 1834 William and Catharine welcomed a daughter into the world, Martha L King who later married Robert Ellis of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

After the death of William King, Catharine and Martha followed some of the King and Lichebarger children who had already moved to Iowa in the Cedar Rapids area, some of whom being the founding settlers of the area.

It is his 2nd wife Catharine who is listed in William's will.
