HOTEL MAN WHO DIED WEDNESDAY, TEXAN SINCE CHILD

Thomas Addison Ezell, 80, prominent trail driver of the early days, rancher and owner of the Ezell Hotel in Sweetwater since 1920, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Sweetwater hospital where he had been ill for six days.

Born in Alabama, Mr. Ezell came to Texas, settling in McCulloch County when a child. His family farmed and he drove oxen. On May 13, 1885, Mr. Ezell married Miss Mary Josephine Jump, who survives. The couple drove to Bandera in a buggy for their marriage. The rainy season had set in and the Medina River swelled to flood level and their wedding plans for a large ceremony was changed to a county judge marriage. The water came up into the buggy bed when they forded the stream going to their home.

The family moved to West Texas in 1886, settling at Big Spring. They moved west in a covered wagon. Some years afterward, Mr. Ezell was manager of the T Ranch near Carlsbad, N.M. and later established his own ranch, his brand being the TEZL.

In 1920, they moved here and acquired The Ezell Hotel, which was remodeled and made into a modern holstry.

Attending many old timer celebrations, Mr. Ezell only last month was honored in Marfa by leading the Old Settler's parade. He was made a life time member of the International Cowboy Association and led the parade, his flag signifying the range riders of the eighties and nineties. He was a guest of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Martha Ezell, in Alpine at the time.

In 1936, the couple celebrated their Golden Anniversary with a reunion of all their children and grandchildren. Mr. Ezell was a Mason, his membership in Carlsbad.

Surviving are Mrs. Ezell and three sons, Rupert T. Ezell of Sweetwater, Clinton A. Ezell of Rotan, and Marion H. Ezell of Oakland, Calif., who came to his father's bedside by plane. Marion formerly was a Hollywood western picture star. A daughter, Mrs. Jack Horne, lives in Sweetwater.

Funeral service was to have been held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Sam H. Young, pastor, officiating. Yates Funeral Home directed burial at the city cemetery.

Pallbearers were Guy Morris, E. L. Langley, C. D. Conley, D. A. Clark, P. R. Hamilton and M. D. Willis.
