The young man who was a son of T. A. Ezell and wife, was brought from his home near the Texas state line late Friday, for medical attention, and was taken at once to Eddy County hospital.
It was realized from the first that his condition was critical, he suffering from toxic poison, and very little hope being held out as to his recovery by the physicians and nurses. Everything that could relieve or prolong life was tried, but to no avail, and yesterday morning surrounded by his anguished parents, brothers and sister, the "weary wheels of life stood still," and Robert Lee Ezell sank into the sleep which none but God can break.
Robert was born in Bandera county, Texas, and was about twenty-six years old. He with his parents and two brothers, Clinton, the eldest, and Rupert, his twin, came to Carlsbad a little over sixteen years ago.
Subsequently, two little sisters and a brother Marion, were added to the family circle, one of the sisters, little Myrtle, passed away at the early age of three and the other is now Mrs. Jack Horne.
Robert received his education in our public schools, graduating with a good record with the class of 1910. His death is the second to occur from the graduates of the High School.
He was of a happy, genial nature, alive to the ludicrous; full of quaint remarks and sayings, and seldom revealed the deeper part of his nature to any one save she who bore him and who sits today in the shadow of this great bereavement.
Owing to the flooded condition of the country, telephone lines being out of commission, etc., no word could reach the eldest brother, Clinton, who lives opposite Orla, Texas, and a car in charge of Walter Pendleton was sent out Thursday morning to bring him in.
The funeral was held in abeyance until he could be found and waiting the return of Rev. J. T. Redmon who has been kept in the north part of the state by the recent high water. The young man was, with his parents, a member of the Methodist church of this city, and a faithful attendant at its services during, his residence here.
Some four years ago the family moved to their ranch near Angeles, Texas, and Robert was not so much in town. He, however, kept in touch with everything of
interest here and always received a warm welcome on his frequent visits. The funeral will be held from the Methodist Church, where as a little schoolboy he attended Sunday school and burial will be by the side of his little sister Myrtle, in City Cemetery, Rev. H. Lowry, of the Presbyterian church will conduct the services.
