MARTIN, Mary Ann It is with profound sadness, but also deep gratitude for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Mary Ann Martin, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of John Gartshore Martin D.S.O., M.I.D., Q.C., who predeceased her in 2007. Devoted mother of Cathy and Stephen Finch, Jamie and Renee Martin, and David and Judy Martin. Cherished grand-mother of Amy Finch (Corbett Ball), John Finch (Amanda), and David Finch; Sarah DeBane (Xavier) and Alexander Martin; Kate, Ian and Duncan Martin. Adored "GG" of Matthew and Michael Ball; Charles, Eloise and William DeBane. Survived by her sister, Jean Yule, and her children Cam (sons Harley and Spencer), Al (Jan) and Heather and nieces Margie Cressman (Colin) and Nan Martin. Predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Hulda Kabel and a brother, John Edward. Mary Ann was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an energetic and enthusiastic woman with tremendous style. She possessed a deep love and knowledge of antiques which were in varying degrees shared with and acquiesced to by John throughout their travels together. As a young woman, she opened the mezzanine Women's Clothing area at Kabel's The English Shop in Downtown Kitchener which she managed until her marriage following the Second World War. In 1974, she founded Duke's Antiques which she owned and operated with her daughter, Cathy, until 2008. She loved a game of bridge with friends and family time at home and at the cottage in Port Elgin. Our family thanks Dr. Norm Bodkin for his wonderful care of our parents and all the medical staff we dealt with over the last few weeks at St. Mary's Hospital and Freeport Hospital for their excellent and compassionate care of our mother. Visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, October 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 54 Queen St. N., Kitchener on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Mark Lewis officiating. A reception will follow the service in Iona Hall at the church. Condolences for the family and memorial donations to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Legacy Fund, KidsAbility Fund for Mary Ann and John Martin, or Mary's Place may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
