Mr. Blanton retired from TRW, now Parker-Hannifin.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956-60.
The family said his most memorable duty was serving in Iceland.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Julia and David Bell of Fayetteville, Ark., and Linda and Dr. Luke Ellenburg Jr. of Greeneville; three grandchildren: Adam Chandley, Ashley Ellenburg, and Jonathan Bell; three stepgrandchildren: Katherine McCormick, Jennifer Ellenburg and Matthew Ellenburg; a brother and sister-in-law: Myron and Delana Blanton of Greeneville; his former wife: Jean Blanton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a son of the late Raymond and Alpha Moore Blanton and was preceded in death by two sons: Robert Martin Blanton Jr. and Robert Michael Blanton.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening at Jeffers Mortuary.
The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the mortuary chapel with interment in Brown Springs Cemetery. The Rev. Barbara Gibson will officiate.
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Andrew Johnson Post #1990, will conduct a military graveside service.
