Shelba Jean Tipton, 76, of Chuckey, passed away Friday at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She retired from the Greene County School System.


Mrs. Tipton was a member of Fairview Cumberland Presbyterian Church.


She was a member of The Women Of The Moose, Chapter No. 1598, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary.


Survivors include her husband: Rayburn Baxter Tipton; two daughters and a son-in-law: Julia and David Bell of Morristown and Linda Ellenburg of Greeneville; four stepsons: Jeffery Tipton of New Berg, Ind., Rick Tipton and Greg Tipton, both of Greeneville and Roger Tipton of Chuckey; a stepdaughter: Sherrie Tipton of Evansville, Ind.; her favorite granddaughter: Ashley Ellenburg; two grandsons: Adam Chandley and Jonathan Bell; several stepgrandsons and stepgranddaughters; a great-granddaughter; three stepgreat-granddaughters; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Marlene and Ben Dunavent and Betty Hankins; and several nieces and nephews.


She was the daughter of the late Ruby and Grady Lafollette and was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law: Orlie and Chester Tipton; and her sons: Robert Michael Blanton and Robert Martin Blanton Jr.


The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral following at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Duncan will officiate.


Family and friends are asked to meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Kiser-Rose Hill to go in procession to the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery for a 2 p.m. interment.


Pallbearers will be Eric Hankins, Roger Tipton, Jonathan Bell, Rick Tipton and Ben Lee Dunavent.
