Myrtle L. "Mert" Strain, 79, of Lafayette, died at 5:08 AM Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was born May 21, 1932 in Scottsburg, Indiana, to the late Hager and Estelle Mitchell Garriott. She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

She married Elbert R. "Bert" Strain in Scottsburg on June 14, 1953. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Katie S. Riggs (husband Roy) and Karen M. Norman (husband Pookie), a brother, Hager Garriott Jr. (wife Marie),and five grandchildren, Levi (wife Brittany), Sara-Ruth, Darby, Lauren and Micah.
