American heiress and Socialite. Mrs. Emery, who inherited a $40‐million real‐estate fortune, was married to the late Grand Duke Dmitri of Russia, grandson of Czar Alexander II and cousin to the last Russian monarch, Czar Nicholas II. Grand Duke Dmitri was the son of Grand Duke Paul and Princess Alexandra of Greece, the daughter of King George of Greece. Czar Nicholas II exiled Grand Duke Dmitri to a post with the Russian Army in Persia because he was said to have taken part in the murder of Rasputin in December, 1916. Grand Duke Dmitri therefore escaped the Revolution and married Miss Emery in 1926. They were divorced in 1937 and he died in Switzerland in 1942. Miss Emery assumed the, title of Princess Ilyinskaia and became Mrs. Audrey Emery after the divorce.
