Crawford was married 12 May 1943 at Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana, to Chrystal Ann "Chris" Redding, while he was serving in the military there. Two children were born of their union, Carl and Dennis.

Crawford and Chris were said to have separated in about 1958, at Fillmore, California, and he returned to Texas. They were divorced in 1967 in Ventura County, California.

U.S. Air Force - WORLD WAR II

(An interesting note is that Crawford was a 1st cousin twice removed "from the originial kinship generation" of the outlaw John Wesley Hardin. Crawford's paternal grandfather, William Barnett Hardin (1835-1901), and Wes Hardin (1853-1895) were 1st cousins, as William's father, Benjamin P. Hardin (1812-c. 1858), and Wes' father, James G. Hardin (1823-1876), were brothers.)
