Vernettie was called to rest on Monday, July 19, 2011 at 5:00 a.m. She attended school in Winona, Texas. She came to Los Angeles, CA in 1942. She started working at the shipyard until they closed and then started working at General Hospital as a housekeeper until retirement. She moved to Arvin, California in the 60's.
Vernettie loved family and her sodas! (which she called pops). She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Alice Jackson (Thurmon) of Los Angeles, Margret Gant who proceeds her in death, one son Jesse E. Phillips who also proceeds her in death. A special Niece Evelyn Gray (Gene) of Duncanville, Texas. She also leaves to cherish her memory, ten grand kids, fourteen great-grand children, sixteen great-great grandchildren and seven great, great, great grand children, and a host of family and friends.
