Almon W. Leavens Of Falls Passes Away On Thursday

Sheboygan Falls, Wis. — Almon W. Leavens, 82 years old, well known resident of this city, passed away suddenly at 1:10 p.m. Thursday at his home, 621 Detroit street, after an illness of one week.
Almon Whiting Leavens was born in Sheboygan Falls September 29, 1854, the son of the late Darius and Hulda Leavens, pioneer settlers of this city, and whose homestead was located on the present Leavens avenue. His father donated the land to Sheboygan Falls.
He received his early education in the local school, later attending Ripon college. On July 28, 1883, he was married to Miss Ida Lumsden of this city, who preceded him in death four years ago. In 1886, the family located in Colorado where they remained until 1898, in which year they returned to Sheboygan Falls. Mr. Leavens was employed as a cheese and butter maker at Castle Rock and other places when he was in Colorado. After returning from the west, he owned and operated a cheese bandage farm here for many years before retiring from active business.
Despite his advanced age, Mr. Leavens devoted much of his time to reading and listening to the events broadcast over the air and was well informed on topics of the day and was devoted to his home and family circle.
He is survived by two sons, A(xxx - lost in fold of newspaper), city clerk here, and Burton at home, and a daughter, Miss A(xxx_ also lost in fold) at home. A son died in infancy and a brother and sister preceded him in death.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dean Funeral Home, the Rev. C.D. Mayhew officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at the Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home beginning Saturday.
