FAIR LAWN — Mrs. Florence Carr Chapman, 59 Sanford Road, died Monday night at Valley Rest Nursing Home, Totowa Borough, alter a long illness. Her funeral will take place tomorrow. Mrs. Chapman was a former, Paterson Board of Health commissioner and a retired teacher and vice principal in Paterson and Saddle Brook schools. Born in Paterson, Mrs. Chapman was a graduate of Paterson High School and Paterson Normal School. She taught at Paterson Schools 5 and 10 and conducted the first class for retarded children in the city school system. Subsequently, she became vice principal of a school in Saddle Brook before retiring in 1934. She was appointed a member of the Board of Health during the administration of former Mayor Michael U. DeVita. Mrs. Chapman was a charter member and past president and secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Joseph’s Hospital. She also was a member of the Dill Democratic Club. Mrs. Chapman had lived in East 36th Street a number of years before moving to Far Lawn. Her husband, Joseph, died in l96l. Surviving are a son, J. Warren Chapman of Fair Lawn; three daughters, Mrs. James F. (Elizabeth) Carney of Mt. Lebanon, Pa.: Mrs. James J. (Helen) Matthews Jr. of Ridgewood; Miss Florence M. Carr at home; two brothers, Louis D. Carr of Jersey City and Henry Parkes (sic) Carr of Paterson; three sisters, Mrs. Clara Stallard of Glen Rock; Mrs. Clarence (Edith) Schenck of Winchester, Va., and Mrs. John R. (Helen) Pyle of Schenectady, NY., and eight grandchildren.
