William Thomas "Bill" Corn was born to John Peter and Sarah Jane Heath Corn in Transylvania County, North Carolina on 5 April 1870. Bill grew up on a farm in the Dunns Rock Section of Transylvania County along with his seven brothers and one sister. He learned the tricks of the trade in farming at a young age, and continued his life in the farming field. I don't know about his formal schooling but think that he at least studied for a few grades as most of the boys of this era did.

On 17 June 1895 he married Cleopatra Elizabeth Capps and they had 9 children of which four either died at child birth or at young age. Two of these, I think, were born in Ivy Log Section of Union County, GA , even though the 1910 census states that James Cecil was born in North Carolina. The reason for this decision was that his family migrated from Buncombe County, North Carolina in the summer of 1908 with his dad and mother, two brothers and his sister. James Cecil was born 4 December 1908. They lived in Georgia about five years and Troy Hillard was probably born there on 27 May 1911. They then moved to Greer, SC where both James Cecil and Troy Hillard died from late January and early Feburary of 1913. I am not sure what caused the deaths but must have be disease.

Bill died on 7 Feb 1940 from a bursted skull sustained in an accident where he feel off the running board of a truck. There was, as I remember, a train stopped on the track near the river not far from his house. He and others took a truck and unloaded a rather large cargo from the train car onto the truck. The train leaves and Uncle Bill jumped up on the running board of the truck. They were taveling up the road to deliver the cargo when his hat blew of his head. He grabbed for the hat and fell from the truck. He sustained a nasty gash on his head when he hit the ground. They got him into the truck and were going to take him home, but noticed that he was acting strange after the head injury so they took him to the hospital. He died enroute to the hospital. Bill was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Weaverville, Buncombe County, North Carolina.
