Mr. Dargan graduated from Clemson University in 1934. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1947 as a captain during World War II, and participated in the invasion of France and Germany. He farmed his familys land for 50 years. Land and water conservation was a great interest of his and he served at local, state and regional levels as commissioner and chairman of conservation committees for many years. He also served on Agricultural Research committees on the local, state and national level. Mr. Dargan was also director and president of the Darlington Farm Bureau for many years and was on the Board of Visitors of Clemson University. For 25 years he served as director of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company and he served on the Darlington Board of Education. He received many awards including Conservation Award of the Year by the State of SC, Outstanding Conservation District Commissioner, Co-op Man of the Year, Man of the Year by the Darlington Chamber of Commerce and he received the Certificate of Merit by the Darlington Soil Conservation District. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and of local, regional and state historical societies.
