Information from "Physicians of Tift County, Volume 1: Compiled by Martha Sue Williams Pittman and published by members of the Women's Auxiliary to the Tift County Medical Society, 1972, pages 25-27: Dr. Franklin Pickett worked his way through medical training with the help of his brothers, Rube and Jack, graduating from the Medical Department of the University of Georgia at Augusta, Georgia (Now the Medical College of GA.) He was the youngest of 11 children. He practiced in Ty Ty with his Uncle. He used the first Diptheria syrum, was the first to do a lumbar puncture and delivered over 5000 babies from 1897 to 1972. He married Miss Martha Williams on January 5, 1899. He served on the County Board of Education and was mayor of Ty Ty, GA for 30 years. He volunterred for service in World War I and earned a Captain's commission, but the war was over before he could serve. He served as Chairman of the Draft board in Tift County during World War II and received the Congressional Medal of Honor. He also received a 50 years service from the State Of Georgia Medical Association in 1947."

Pickett, Sr. and Katherine Raines Pickett, was born in Webster County. He helped establish a progressive school in Ty Ty, GA and served as chairman of the local and county Boards of Education. He and Martha Williams Pickett had children: Theodore Franklin, Mary Kathleen, and Frankie Evelyn."
