DEATH OF MRS. AMOS
Venerable Pioneer Woman of Napa Passed Away Saturday Evening
Mrs. Pamelia [sic] Amos, an aged and well known pioneer of Napa, passed away Saturday afternoon at about 5 o'clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W.C. Gray, 744 North Main street. She had been in failing health for a number of years, and for the past 10 years had been unable to walk from the effects of rheumatism. Death came as the quiet end of a long and useful life.
Mrs. Amos was born in St. Clare county, Illinois, in 1819, and was 85 years and 6 months of age at the time of her death. She was married to Henry Amos in 1843, and in 1849 he crossed the plains to seek gold in the mines of California. After making several trips back to Illinois, Mr. Amos brought his wife and family to Dutch Flat, Placer county, in 1860. In 1867 they moved to Napa, and Mrs. Amos has resided here ever since. In 1898 the husband passed away in Nana, and since then Mrs. Amos has resided with her daughters. Deceased is survived by three daughters: Mrs. J.W. Grigsby and Mrs. W.C. Gray of Napa, and Mrs. M.D. Buck of Berkeley, formerly also a resident of Napa.
The family have the sympathy of many friends and acquaintances in Napa and other parts of the State in their bereavement.
The funeral will be held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the Methodist Church. Rev. H.E. Beeks will conduct the services.
