Regina M. (Auty) Smith, 89, of DeBary, Fla. and formerly of Uxbridge died Thursday, May 19, 2011 in Woodland Terrace, DeLand, Fla. She was the wife of the late Edward E. Smith Jr. who died in 1995.


Mrs. Smith was a supervisor at the Alternatives Unlimited in Northbridge with the Massachusetts Dept. of Mental Health for 22 years before her retirement in 1991.


She was born March 11, 1922 in Mendon, the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary B. (Matthews) Auty and had been a resident of Mendon before moving to Uxbridge in 1954.


Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Mendon High School and a longtime member of the First Evangelical Congregational Church of Uxbridge. Regina was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Uxbridge. She is survived by three daughters; two brothers; one sister; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. [Survivor names omitted]


She was predeceased by one son Ronald E. Miller who died in 1994, a brother Charles Auty and three sisters, Florence Goodridge, Mildred Kennelly and Vera E. Olson.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011, at 10 a.m., in the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 North Main St. (Route 122), Uxbridge 01569. Interment will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Mendon St., Uxbridge.


Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 6-8 p.m., in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund, c/o the First Evangelical Congregational Church, P.O. Box 152, Uxbridge, MA 01569.
