MILFORD - Charles "Eddie" Auty, 81, of Milford, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at the Blaire House of Milford. He was the husband of Frances M. (Tomaso) Auty.
A resident of Milford for 50 years, Mr. Auty was employed as a master mechanic for the town of Milford Highway Department. Previously, he had worked for the former Jesse F. White Inc. in Mendon.
He was born and raised in Mendon, and was the son of the late Alfred and Mary (Mathews) Auty.
Mr. Auty enjoyed camping, fishing and especially hanging out in his garage with friends. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by four daughters, Mary F. and her husband, Paul P. Garagliano, of Mendon, Charlene M. and her husband, Dennis G. Boucher, of Mendon, Debbie A. and her husband, Mark S. Hofstra, of Milford, and Florence Auty of Milford and her companion, Steven Rummo; two brothers, Alfred Auty and William Auty, both of Mendon; two sisters; Regina Smith of Florida and Helen Salvia of Mendon; seven grandchildren, Amy Gilchrist, Paul Garagliano Jr., Michael Garagliano, Amanda Boucher, Ashley Boucher, Carly Hofstra and Jessie Hofstra; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Vera Olson, Mildred Kennelly, Florence Goodridge and Eleanor Auty.
Funeral services will take place Thursday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m., at the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford (www.bumafuneralhome.com). Interment will follow in SwanDale Cemetery, Mendon.
Visiting hours are Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
