On Thursday, around 7:30am, a van driven by a sheriff's deputy, Howard Mitchell, 57, who ran a group home for adopted and foster children collided with an empty cattle trailer on Thursday in a highway construction zone, killing him and five children and injuring seven other children.

The five children are:
Austyn Atkinson, 11
Tony Mitchell, 10
Tayla Mitchell, 10
Andy Dawson, 13
Jeremy Franks, 17

The ages of the hospitalized children were 3, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 17, officials said. The 14-year-old, who suffered minor injuries, was the only one in the van wearing a seat belt, although the 3-year-old was properly restrained in a child seat, troopers said.

There was one obituary for all involved, at Brown Funeral Homes. The following is the piece for Jeremy

They say animals and children are always drawn to exceptionally loving people; this was proved to be true by Jeremy Franks. Jeremy loved to spend time with the Mitchell dogs and show off puppies when new litters were born. He was generous and kind with children, offering shoulder rides, or lugging them around; always with a big smile on his face. He was a new Christian and was extremely proud to get the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Guatemala with one of his brothers and other Church members.
