Ulysses Orato Caligari is the son of Swiss-Italian born James and Augustina Caligari. He is the second of six children: Mathew, Ulysses, Ida, Emma, Erminio and Peter Caligari. The extended Caligari family members were dairy farmers and all of Ulysses’ siblings were born in or around Guadalupe. In September 1918, Ulysses age 39 filled out his World-War-One draft registration card. He wrote that he is a farmer who works for himself and his father James Caligari is his nearest relative; they both live in Guadalupe, California. Ulysses is medium height, medium build, brown eyes, and black hair. Ulysses never married, but many nephews and nieces learned how to milk cows from “Uncle Lissi.” When Ulysses could no longer work on the farm, he went to live with his brother Mathew Caligari in Alameda, California, where he passed at age 74.
