Ruth Lester Browning, 76, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 7, 2011, from Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan after a long illness.

She was born March 21, 1934, at St. Albans, a daughter of the late Corbett and Oma Smith Wheeler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Clay Lester; her second husband, Hubert Browning; one daughter, Donna Kay Backus; one sister, Catherine Brown; and two brothers, Ray Wheeler and Ronald Wheeler.

Ruth was a retired employee of the Logan County Board of Education where she was a cook at Man High School for over 34 years. She was a member of the Greenville Free Will Baptist Church at Greenville, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide for as long as she was able. Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Inez "Bug" (Roger "Tye") Harris of Verner; four grandchildren, Michael (Rose) Harris of Gilbert Creek, Jason Harris of Verner, Sabrina (Jody) Rose of Greenville, and John "J.C." (Kelly) Backus of Huff Creek; four great-grandchildren, David (Whitney) Rose, Jodi Harris, Jacey Jo Harris, and Jason Dale "J.D." Harris Jr.; a very special friend, Janet Browning; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will commence at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2011, at the Greenville Free Will Baptist Church at Greenville with Rev. Baxter Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Browning-Mitchell Cemetery at Verner.
