Merle E. Payne, 80, retired Internal Revenue Service audit supervisor, died Thursday, June 5, 2003. Visitation at Hillside Funeral Home East Chapel. Service 10 a.m. Monday, Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church with Rev. Loran Scott offciating. Military honors will be provided at Kechi Township Cemetery. Mr. Payne served in WW II with the U.S. Navy, he was a member of NARFE, American Legion Post #401, a 33rd degree mason, a member of Bester G. Brown A.F.&A.M. Masonic Lodge and the Wichita Scottish Rite.
Survivors: wife, Carolyn of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Vicki Payne of Wichita, Mike and Marcia Payne of Newton; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Don Doze of Wichita; sister, Margaret Payne of Ft.
